New EU shipping requirements from 1 November 2026 – Is your product data ready?

October 15, 2026

If your business ships products to customers in the European Union, new customs requirements are coming into force on 1 November 2026, and you may need to take action.

Disclaimer: This article is provided for general information only and reflects the requirements understood at the time of publication. Customs regulations and carrier requirements may change. Businesses are responsible for ensuring their shipments comply with applicable customs regulations and should consult their shipping providers or relevant customs authorities for specific guidance.

The changes introduce additional Product Identifier (PID) requirements for business-to-consumer (B2C) shipments entering the EU, regardless of the value of the goods.

The aim is to help customs authorities identify products more accurately and improve the processing of international shipments.

For eCommerce retailers, this means ensuring the correct product information is available when orders are despatched. Missing or incorrect information could result in customs delays, additional administration or shipments being returned.

The good news for StoreFeeder customers is that much of the information required may already exist within your product records.

What are the three product identifiers?

The new requirements cover three types of product identification:

  • ‍M-PID (Merchant Product Identifier): Your own internal product reference, usually the SKU.‍
  • NS-PID (Non-Standardised Manufacturer Product Identifier): The manufacturer's product or part number, such as an MPN or Supplier SKU.
  • ‍S-PID (Standardised Product Identifier): An internationally recognised identifier, such as an EAN or UPC, required where one exists.

These identifiers help customs authorities establish exactly which products are being imported into the EU.

How Is StoreFeeder handling these changes?

We've designed the process to minimise additional work for StoreFeeder customers.

If your products already have the following information recorded, you shouldn't need to enter any additional Product Identifier information:

StoreFeeder will automatically retrieve the relevant information from these existing product fields and pass it through the supported shipping process.

This means that for customers already maintaining accurate product information, the changes should require little or no additional administration.

What if you need to use different identifiers?

We've also provided the flexibility to override the information StoreFeeder automatically retrieves.

Within the Shipping & Handling tab of a product, you can enter specific values for the relevant Product Identifiers.

If these override fields are left blank, StoreFeeder will continue to use the information held in the standard product fields.

This gives you control over the information supplied without having to change your existing product references.

Do you need to take action?

Althouh StoreFeeder will automatically retrieve existing information, we strongly recommend checking your product records before 1 November. In particular, make sure your products have accurate SKUs, manufacturer part numbers or Supplier SKUs, and EAN or UPC information where applicable.

If any of this information is missing, you may need to contact your suppliers or update your product records.

It's also worth confirming that your shipping carrier supports the new requirements and that your international shipping configuration is correct.

What happens if the information is missing?

Incomplete or inaccurate customs information can create unnecessary problems for retailers and their customers. Shipments may be delayed, held for additional checks or potentially returned to the sender.

For businesses shipping regularly into the EU, these delays can quickly create extra customer service enquiries, additional costs and unhappy customers.

A little preparation now can help avoid disruption once the changes come into force.
