How Black Cat Medicines Scaled from 200 Orders a Week to 130,000 a Month

April 9, 2026

Scaling an ecommerce business sounds simple until operations start getting in the way. For Black Cat Medicines, growth only really took off once they had the systems in place to support it.

In this Q&A, Garry, David and the team explain how they built a multi-channel operation and how StoreFeeder helped them handle serious volume without adding unnecessary overheads.

Meet Black Cat Medicines

Q: Can you tell us about your business and how you work with StoreFeeder?

A: We’re Black Cat Medicines, an online veterinary pharmacy and pet store.

We sell across multiple channels including Shopify (two stores), Amazon (two accounts), eBay, Tesco, B&Q and more. If there’s a marketplace worth selling on, we’re probably on it.

We’ve been using StoreFeeder for over 10 years, so we’ve grown alongside the platform. It’s not just a tool for us, it’s something we’ve helped shape over time.

Q: What did your business look like before StoreFeeder?

A: Before StoreFeeder, we were mainly selling on Amazon and eBay, doing around 100–200 orders a week.

That worked at the time, but as volume increased it became harder to keep everything organised and moving efficiently.

StoreFeeder gave us the structure we needed to grow properly. Since then, we’ve scaled to around 130,000 orders per month.

Q: How were you managing operations before, and what changed?

A: Everything was manual.

Stock was tracked in spreadsheets, orders were processed individually, labels were created one by one, and picking was done using paper sheets.

Now everything runs through StoreFeeder. We handle purchase ordering, goods-in booking, warehouse locations, mobile picking, and tote picking for bulk and multi-line orders all within one system.

Shipping rules have also made a big difference. They automatically choose the right courier based on cost and speed, so we’re not constantly making those decisions ourselves.

Q: How did StoreFeeder impact your warehouse operations?

A: Previously, picking relied heavily on paper and people’s memory.

If someone wasn’t in, it caused delays because others didn’t know where items were stored.

Now everything is structured. Products have defined locations, barcode scanning guides the process, and the mobile app directs staff exactly where to go.

That’s allowed us to increase picking speed significantly. We can now process thousands of items per hour.

We’ve also gone fully paperless. We used to print thousands of sheets every day, whereas now the only thing printed is the shipping label.

Q: How does StoreFeeder support more complex inventory needs?

A: As a veterinary pharmacy, we have to manage stock very carefully.

StoreFeeder allows us to use batch tracking and FIFO, which ensures proper stock rotation and compliance. That’s essential for our business and something we couldn’t manage reliably with manual processes.

Q: Has StoreFeeder helped with onboarding and team management?

A: Yes, especially in the warehouse.

We can set user permissions depending on role, track who picked and packed each order, and monitor performance across the team.

That gives us much better visibility day to day.

It also means new staff can get up to speed quickly because the system guides them through the process, rather than relying on someone else to show them everything.

Q: Has StoreFeeder helped you grow across more sales channels?

A: Yes. Without it, we’d need a much larger team just to manage orders, tracking, and stock across platforms.

Having everything centralised makes it possible to run multiple channels without adding unnecessary overhead.

This is a common issue for growing ecommerce businesses, where spreadsheets and disconnected tools quickly become a bottleneck as order volume increases.

Q: What has your experience been with StoreFeeder’s support team?

A: Support has been consistently strong.

There’s a detailed knowledge base for most questions, and email support is quick to respond. If something is urgent, we can speak directly to someone and get it resolved.

When you’re working with marketplace deadlines and strict shipping requirements, that level of support makes a big difference.

Q: With other options available, why stick with StoreFeeder?

A: Because it’s proven it can scale with us.

We’ve gone from a small operation to handling 5,000–6,000 orders a day, and the system has supported that growth the whole way through.

There are other platforms that offer similar features, but switching introduces risk. We know how StoreFeeder works, and we trust it to handle the volume.

The Takeaway

Black Cat Medicines didn’t scale by adding more people or working harder. They improved how their operations run.

They moved from manual processes and disconnected systems to a setup where everything is centralised, structured, and easier to manage.

That shift is what allows a business to grow without operations becoming a constant problem, which is exactly what StoreFeeder is built to support.
