How Black Cat Medicines scaled from 200 orders a week to 6,000 a day with StoreFeeder

Black Cat Medicine's Story

From spreadsheets and paper picking to a fully integrated, multi-channel fulfilment operation.

Black Cat Medicines’ story

Black Cat Medicines is an online veterinary pharmacy and pet supplies retailer operating across multiple sales channels. The business sells through two Shopify websites and marketplaces including Amazon, eBay, Tesco, B&Q, OnBuy and more.

As an omnichannel seller in a highly regulated industry, stock accuracy, batch tracking and fulfilment speed are mission critical.

Having partnered with StoreFeeder for over 10 years, the team has grown alongside the platform from its early days.

The challenge

Manual systems limiting serious growth

Before implementing StoreFeeder, Black Cat Medicines operated primarily through Amazon and eBay, processing between 100 and 200 orders per week.

Stock was managed using Excel spreadsheets. Orders were handled manually. Courier labels were created one by one. Warehouse picking relied heavily on paper pick sheets and individual staff knowledge.

If a key team member was off, finding stock could become a challenge. Scaling the business under that structure would have required significantly more back-office staff and introduced higher operational risk.

The processes simply were not built for volume.

The brief

Create a scalable, centralised fulfilment engine

Black Cat Medicines needed:

  • A single system to manage all marketplaces
  • Accurate, real-time stock visibility
  • Efficient warehouse picking and packing
  • Automated courier management
  • Strict batch tracking and FIFO rotation
  • A solution that could scale without multiplying headcount

Most importantly, the business needed confidence that growth would not break operations.

The solution

One central platform powering omnichannel growth

StoreFeeder brought every sales channel into one centralised system. Orders from Shopify, Amazon, eBay, Tesco and other marketplaces flow into a single dashboard. Stock updates are pushed back out automatically.

The warehouse operation was completely transformed.

Paper pick sheets were replaced with barcode scanning, absolute pick locations and mobile app picking. The team now uses:

  • Warehouse pick snakes
  • Tote picking for multi-line orders
  • Mobile barcode scanning
  • Batch tracking with FIFO rotation
  • Automated purchase ordering
  • Shipping rules to optimise courier selection

Shipping rules have become one of the most valuable features.

“They enable us to send items at the most suitable price and with the right courier, getting orders to customers quickly with very little manual input.”

The impact in the warehouse has been dramatic. Where hand-picking once limited output, mobile-guided picking now allows thousands of items to be picked per hour.

The move to digital workflows also eliminated vast amounts of paper. At one point, the business was printing up to 1,000 A4 pick sheets per day. Today, the only paper used is a thermal shipping label.

The results

From 200 orders a week to 6,000 orders a day

Since implementing StoreFeeder, Black Cat Medicines has scaled significantly:

  • Growth from 100–200 orders per week to 130,000 orders per month
  • Now shipping 5,000–6,000 orders per day
  • Fully centralised multi-channel order management
  • Paperless warehouse operations
  • Improved stock accuracy with batch tracking and FIFO
  • Scalable fulfilment without proportional headcount increases

“It’s that confidence in scalability that’s kept us with StoreFeeder. We’ve grown from a few hundred orders a week to thousands a day, and the system has scaled with us.”

The platform’s reporting and user permissions also give the business greater visibility and operational control. Individual packers can be tracked, performance can be measured, and system access can be tightly managed.

Support that matches the pace of ecommerce

Operating on major marketplaces means strict performance metrics and deadlines. Missing KPIs is not an option.

Black Cat Medicines values the direct access and responsiveness of the StoreFeeder team.

“If something is critical, we can pick up the phone and get it fixed fast. That support is mission critical for us.”

Alongside direct contact with leadership, the business benefits from a detailed knowledge base and fast ticket support, ensuring operational continuity.

Advice to growing ecommerce retailers

For businesses considering a WMS or ERP platform, the team’s advice is grounded in experience.

“There are other systems out there that can do similar things. But we know StoreFeeder inside out. It’s grown with us, and they understand our business the best.”

The long-term partnership, scalability and operational confidence have made StoreFeeder a core part of the business infrastructure.
