If you sell into Europe, in particular France and Germany, as a seller you should already be aware of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), but just in case....
What is EPR?
EPR is a strategy to add all of the environmental costs associated with a product throughout the product life cycle to the market price of that product to minimize the environmental impact of waste materials.
From January 1st 2022, mandatory EPR requirements came into force in France, and Germany are set to follow soon with EPR requirements from 1st July 2022.
If you are selling goods into either of these countries, then you will need to consider whether your products require you to register for EPR.
Many eCommerce marketplaces will soon be required to ensure that any seller who triggers these new requirements provide their EPR registration numbers to the marketplace listings.
If you do sell into these countries and are not aware of EPR, we suggest that you get up to speed as soon as possible. This video from eCommerce news website Tamebay has some very useful information:
And there is more information from both Amazon and eBay:
The likelihood is that this initiative will also come to the UK with rumours around that this will start in 2023 - https://www.valpak.co.uk/epr-ready/packaging
StoreFeeder are working towards the marketplaces requirements for sellers to be able to upload the appropriate EPR information (where required) to their marketplace listings and giving you the ability to store relevant EPR category information on the product records, to allow you to be able to export the relevant data you are required to submit.
